It is wonderful to see that Katie is gifting the Realm of Foosball with her presence...
But in all honesty, I'm not surprised to see her name in the first place slot.
While
having the pleasure of visiting Katie and Lonnie at their nice home
some time ago, it was also my pleasure to get to play some Foosball
with (and against) Katie. I noticed how she had a serious approach to
the game when she played, which later I attributed to her showing an
"outsider's" respect to the passion shown by the True Believers
surrounding her. She joined in the serious fun, and demonstrated a
deftness with her hands that at first I found surprising. Her "Foosball
Style" had a uniqueness to it, not unlike her wonderful art work that I
was moved by when I viewed it...
I thought of how
the manifestations of her remarkable creative talents were brought to
life by the transference of idea to dexterous fruition.
Later,
when I pressed her on thoughts and feelings about any passion for the
game that held those around her under its obsessive sway, on any Inner
Warrior that might lurk beneath...she disavowed any such tendencies
toward aspiring Shield Maidenhood. The seed of Competitive compulsion
just wasn't within her...and I was sure that she was sure of that.
Yet...when a late night anthropological debate of sorts
ensued between us, one where our core beliefs seemed at opposite ends
of the spectrum, I saw the flash of eyes under a raised brow, and the
glint of an Intellectual Call to Arms. I'm afraid she decided to take
it easy on the guest, or so it seemed. I thought it a shame; I would
have liked to have experienced her laser-like mind set at TOTALLY
ANNIHILATE. I'll bet I would have been taken to task...and duly
impressed.
But...as I read of Ms. Adam's recent ascent to the apex of Southern...er...Central
Illinois Foosball stardom, I thought back on her telling me of the
absence of competitive bent, something at that time I thought
would destine her to "being nice enough to play some" or being the
"need-one-more-player Angel" to make teams even numbered...
Then I remembered the fiery flash she let escape that
one night...and I thought of how a fire can take many forms, and
shapes...and be used and directed in so many a varied way...
Sometimes
we warm our hands with it, sometimes we start a fire to stop a fire
that rages uncontrolled, and sometimes it springs to life inside us,
giving birth to sweet emotions...and Magical Ideas.
Ideas,
that, when forged in the Creative Crucible of the Enchanted among us, can
be given a Life of their own, shaped out of the uniqueness of one's own
Soul...
I wish I could have been there to see Katie weave
her web of Competitive Fire...and behold her undoubtedly incomparable
contribution to the creation of a Victory.
