    Re: The foosmovie review

We watched the movie.  I know what Ismert was trying to accomplish by featuring Johnny Horton.  And he wasn't only focusing on him....there was a great deal of this movie devoted to Scott Moreland.  His parents have as much to do with foosball as does the church Johnny was filmed in and yet, there was a large chunk devoted toward interviewing them.  By focusing on the trials and tribulations that two individual players have had to endure and focusing on good/not so good parts of their lives, it gives the viewer a first-hand look into what this game is about and how it can either have positive or extremely negative effects on those who choose to travel this road.  Bear in mind that this documentary was not made for foosers only.  Ismert is trying to bring a universal understanding to those who may have never touched a table, or don't know much about the history of the sport.

When you watch a documentary, most times, the director focuses on an individual's perspective so as to find an area the man on the street can relate to.  For instance, I watched a documentary about the Hoover Dam.  The director picked two people out of that crew of thousands to focus on - they shared their experiences, etc. and it made me far more able to relate to what it must have been like to be there.  Most people not in this game don't know who the hell Johnny Horton or Scott Moreland are.  They are just two people who play foosball - but by focusing on their personal stories as they relate to the game and the effects this game has had on their lives, it makes foosball more approachable to the common man.  Emotions have universal appeal - foosball does not.

I thought it was very well done as well as a fascinating case study of this game and of those who play it.  I suspect there will be a Part Deux soon enough that will feature this generation's players.
