    Indy DYP/BYP Sat June 27

Everyone, this Saturday is the monthly DYP/BYP at Kip's.

    DYP 5:30 - $10 a head

    BYP - 8:30 - $40/team

Ladies play for $10 per event.

Everyone rally the troops and make it out!  We are trying to show the management at Kip's that we have support so that we can get new tables!  Hope to see you all there!

BTW, we are trying to figure some things out that would make the tournament at Kip's better for all players.  Prior to the first Bocca BYP, we had discussed getting things started at an earlier time (such as 3pm) to cater to the out-of-town crowd.  I personally thought that even with the 3/5 format at Bocca, I arrived back to Indy at a reasonable hour.  Therefore, I like the idea from my traveling experience but as a local it doesn't really matter to me.

For all of you out-of-towners, would an earlier start time permit for you all to more regularly make the tournaments?

Another discussion that has come up is pot-size.  The bar kicks-in $$$ for our weekly DYPs as well as our BYPs.  We have fondled with the idea of taking the money that we would normally get from the bar for the weekly DYPs and adding that instead to the BYP pots.  Would this draw a consistently large crowd?

Anyone with comments, please feel free to give them.  Thanks guys.

How much will the weekly tourney be effected by the $$ being added to the monthly?  If you are going to lose even one Tuesday regular player because of the payouts being cut, then I would say NO to adding the Tuesday $$ to the BYP.  Of course it would be nice to play for more $$, but its not worth losing regular players.  If no one has a problem with it, I say go for it.  I have a feeling it will make the BYP more interesting.

and since ya asked,,, yeah I'd like to see the BYP start earlier.  Probably wouldn't be best to start too early, but the earlier you move it back, the more its going to influence me to come when I have stuff to do early Sunday morning.

    just my 2 cents

Re: Indy DYP/BYP Sat June 27

Please don't take anything I say as negative against Kip's or the people there.  I love you guys and your tournament.  I am greatly appreciative of you guys for providing one of the best places to play within driving distance for me.  But you asked for opinions, so here is mine.

I wouldn't deprive your local players of the add in for the DYP just to try to draw out of towners to the BYP.  The pots at Kip's always seem good to me.  And if you are bumping up to $40 a team for the BYP to try to attract the big name traveling teams, I would come up with a lower entry for beginners.  I don't think being a woman qualifies me for a lower entry...I think the people who have no shot at making the money are the ones who should be cut some slack.  They are the ones who won't be likely to pony up $20 ($30 with the DYP included) to play.

I used to like it when you started at 4...then 5 was okay too...but then it really started to be pushed back and back since there wouldn't be anyone there yet.  I think the most important thing is to stick to whatever starting time you pick and enforce it.  If I drive 2 hours and make it on time, it kind of sucks to then wait around another hour to see if more people show up.  But I totally understand that was the tournament directors trying to make the tournament the biggest and best possible and to accomodate as many people as possible.

I think you guys need to enforce the same code of conduct that Bocca brought out for their first BYP.  It sucks driving 2 hours to listen to people fight.  I know it is rare at Kip's, but it has a lasting effect on how motivated I am to make the trip.  Now, I am probably the only one who is at all bothered by fighting...but you asked for opinions.

It would be so awesome if we got it to where we had 2 rocking BYPs a month in Indy and Cincy.

I know I haven't been supporting local foosball too much lately, but I really needed a break from foosball for a bit.  I was on overload and burnout and all that!  But seeing everyone at the Bocca BYP and seeing how a tournament could go off without the fighting and unpleasantness we seem to get so much of locally, I am almost inspired to get back into playing.  Plus if I don't start practicing, Angie will be kicking my ass with one hand tied behind her back!

Thanks to everyone who is trying to grow our local scenes!

    :)
    Melissa

p.s. I have to work this Saturday...otherwise I would be there to play!

Re: Indy DYP/BYP Sat June 27

Hey Melissa, would you please give some details as to what "code of conduct that Bocca brought out" is all about?

    I mean...

If it forbids snitching food off peoples' plates while they are playing a match....I am totally not down with that!!!

    But seriously...

Not even the pickle?  I mean, come on!  Most people don't eat the pickle anywayz, at least when I'm around (they don't get the chance).

But...uh...any specifics as to what kind of Code Of Conduct you're talking about would be appreciated by me...and others, I'm sure.

I mean... It won't be toooo strict, will it?  Not like players won't be able to act like big babies and yell and scream and call people cheaters and cuss and call people names and make threats and argue for 15 minutes at a stretch and act like you're from....uh....well...that would be kinda strict, wouldn't it?

I'd just like to hear a little more about it... Big Smile

    A lil'.

                                                  Thanks!

Re: Indy DYP/BYP Sat June 27

Sweet, thanks Lonnie and Melissa for the opinions thus far.

Lonnie - Kip's only throws in a small amount for the Tuesday night DYPs (last week $10 for 4 teams) and the turnout that we have is a bunch of guys who are more interested in playing than anything.  What we talked about doing is no longer giving 3rd place their entry fee back unless we, for some odd reason, have more than an 8 team turnout.

As far as the start time, as I mentioned I also like the idea of starting earlier.  It would conflict with my schedule to do so but I would think that people like yourself may be more enticed to play.  I do agree with Melissa about the start times.  At Kip's, it is a large pain to everyone when the DYP runs an hour longer than expected or we wait an additional 30 minutes for a local player to show up.  I know this happens at all tournaments for some reason, but we can for sure work on that one.  I don't think it is fair to punish everyone due to one person/team............

Melissa - The fees that I posted above are what the TD asked me to post for this month.  Actually, he told me to post $20 a person but I just worded it differently (haha not in an attempt to attract better/more teams).  Stoney wants "beginners" to pay $10-$15 (as in the past) but we are having trouble deciding what defines such a person.  For instance, I feel that my roommate Reid (never played in any tournament other than at Kip's) is a great goalie, but he doesn't pay $20 even though he and I have won like 3 times together.  However, I believe he should pay $20.  So I guess it is likely that people will continue to be charged different fees with $20 being the most until a better system is devised.  I also think that the lower price for women is because all of us guys want to see more females out there!!!!!  C'mon!!!!!

As for the conduct, I have heard in the past that both local and out-of-state players like to make a scene at Kip's for some reason.  I understand that everyone has different fuses and such but there needs to be a certain amount of respect for the game from everyone and I know that sometimes it isn't so evident.  The most recent "problem" that took place was a little more than an argument.  I gather that most problems like this, and you were there so I know you know about it, begin during a heated tournament match.  Then I think that everyone thinks that because they are at a bar it is ok to let things get out of hand.  What I have done, partially in an attempt to help this, is taken and passed the Officials test from Tom Yore when I was in St. Louis for the National Doubles Tournament.  Jerry also just passed his test this past weekend in Atlanta.  Now there are, officially, two local Officials.  This gives everyone the opportunity to have an Official for their matches so that less conflicts take place.  Hopefully this will also provide for more "respect of the game" as I like to call it.  I also feel that when you have a larger crowd of players who play on tour (such as at Bocca last month) you will run into less conduct/rule issues on the table.  A jar that happens can usually call itself.............usually.  But then again that is why there are Officials.

Hopefully those address what you guys are thinking and hopefully we can get you guys to keep joining us at Kip's.  If you guys don't tell us what out-of-town players want to see, we won't be able to keep you all around.  If there are more thoughts/ideas, either new or built off of already mentioned, please let me or someone up in Indy know so that we can make things better for everyone.  Thank you so much for telling me whats up and I will talk with Stone-dog about it on Saturday about your thoughts.

    Alex,

Hahaha............you can have a pickle from my plate but if I catch someone stealing an Onion Petal I will likely create a domestic dispute.........hahaha ok maybe not because everyone deserves to know just how good those things are.

What I think Melissa is talking about is how there did not seem to be any on or off the table problems.  I was jarred/reset a few times but if I really thought that it was an issue there would be a quick, simple resolution with virtually no debate.

We were playing Todd and I thought that I may have jarred him and I looked at him for a couple seconds after it happened.  Actually, it happened twice.  After the second game, he told me jokingly but seriously that I didn't have to look at him if I thought I got him, but instead he would let me know.  I thought that it was cool that there was the feeling of respect that if something bogus happened it would be easily resolved.  In fact, no matches needed reffed (as far as I know).  If I am right, this is what she is talking about.

The smoking at KIPS is really bad.  If all the foosers would respect all of the non smoking foosers alittle more i think it would help.  The foosball room is small enough already.  Ask all the foosers whom smoke to smoke in the large room would be a nice improvement.
